The Sector Rotation System uses a relative strength model developed to rank
which of Fidelity Select (Sector) funds are showing the greatest change in
momentum.
Weekly we review the portfolio and rotate out of funds that have been held for 30
days and are no longer ranked in the top ten of our ranking system.
This strategy is most appropriate for IRA/Retirement accounts.

While we tend to focus our client’s portfolios on mutual funds and exchange
traded funds (ETFs) we do on occasion incorporate individual stocks. Unlike
our approach when picking funds, with individual stocks we look for stocks that
may be temporarily out of favor. Our goal is to buy leading companies at a
discount.
This approach would be similar to buying a winter coat on sale in the spring.
Because the coats are out of season we can often buy them for 40% to 70% off
what they would normally sell for in the fall or early winter.
Of course we can’t buy a trendy coat that may be completely out of style next
winter. We have to focus on a more classic style that we feel pretty confident
we will wear the next year. This same concept holds true for the stocks we like
to buy. We don’t want to buy a company that could be out of business in a year.
We try to stick with leaders in their industries that will be around when
business conditions return to normal.
